By popular demand, we’ve expanded our retreat offering to
provide a Spring and a Fall session. Our spring session is a great opportunity
to get ready for the summer riding season. The retreats let you to work on what
you want to work on, with expert guidance from Jennifer. Here’s what several
students said about our Fall 1999 session:
"…I didn't realize how much I got out of the
retreat for those 5 days until now that I am at home and practicing things.
I definitely am becoming a more active rider instead of reactive!"
- G. Gottsacker
"I want to thank you for giving me so much attention and help.
You were very patient and really helped me get through problems I had...I
had a wonderful time and would love to attend another retreat!"
- S. Collier
The Retreat is your chance to spend a fun, educational
vacation improving both your relationship with your horse and your horse’s
performance at Free Rein Farm, in beautiful Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin! This is
just the place for you to relax, learn new skills, and meet others who share
your training views. Through consistency and knowledge, you will be able to put
the fun back into your training sessions and take home the tools to keep it
there! The retreat is strictly limited to eight students and their horses.
Tuition is $500 which includes stabling for your horse.
The specific exercises we’ll teach at the retreat will be
tailored to meet your desired goals. Whether you want to improve your horse’s
ground manners, fix behavior problems, improve his/her responsiveness to your
leg or rein cues under saddle, work on collection, sliding stops or more, this
is the vacation for you!
Before you can become you horse’s teacher, you yourself
must master the lesson. In the classroom, you will learn the principles we’ll
be applying and the the steps in the lesson plan. You’ll learn what to do in a
multitude of situations and what to expect from your student. Then, you’ll
apply your knowledge with hands-on practice in a supportive learning
environment.
There will be groundwork with your equine partner and plenty of riding time
each day. For those who are comfortable, we’ll have working trail rides across
Free Rein Farm’s 153 acres as well as at Lake Wissota State Park and the
Chippewa County Forest.
We’ll start each day with feeding and cleaning our horses stalls. By
9:00am, we’ll be working. We’ll break for lunch together around noon. After
lunch, we’ll work until 5:30 or 6:00pm.
